Sustainability
Alexander’s earned certification as one of Atlas’ Sustainable Agents in 2016, the first year of the program. This certification requires an agent to measure their environmental impact in four areas and conducts annual audits to ensure compliance.
Philanthropy
Alexander’s believes in supporting the needs of families and children. We support charitable programs including Move for Hunger, Make A Wish and Cookies for Cancer as well as a number of local programs.
Volunteering
Whether building bikes for kids, collecting food donations on college move out days or handing out water to tired runners, Alexander’s team members are active in our communities. Our volunteer efforts reflect our belief that every small step makes a difference.
Taking Small Steps Towards a Greener Future
On the Job
Fuel-efficient equipment – Alexander’s continually invests in new trailers and straight trucks, which incorporate the latest upgrades to reduce fuel use and increase safety.
On-board generators – These generators have reduced engine idling time saving emissions and fuel.
CARB compliance – We support California’s CARB initiative to reduce emissions and pollution.
Plastic boxes for commercial moves – Alexander’s encourages the use of reusable plastic totes on our commercial moves. These totes are also constructed of recycled materials and can be recycled once they are no longer usable.
100% recycled boxes and packing materials – Alexander’s purchases only boxes and packing materials constructed from 100% post-consumer recycled materials. Additionally, we pick up and recycle or reuse packing materials following a move.
Post move recycling- At the end of each project, Alexander’s is able to recycle approximately 95% of move-related consumables through our company’s waste disposal process.
In Our Facilities
Energy Star compliant office equipment – Alexander’s purchases only energy star compliant office equipment including copiers, scanners and printers. We have also centralized our printers within each office to reduce toner use. Each printer defaults to two-sided printing.
Recycling programs – Each Alexander’s office recycles the paper and plastic used within our facilities.
Automatic lighting – Our offices and warehouses are equipped with energy efficient lighting that reduces electric use. Many light switches have also been upgraded to turn on and off automatically.
Toner recycling- We recycle the toner cartridges used in each of our facilities.
Driven by People
Discard and Donate– Our discard and donate program assists transferees in preparing for their move by helping them reduce the amount of household goods to be moved. Alexander’s provides professional assistance to sort items and help transferees determine categorized items as “to be moved”, “to be donated” and “to be discarded.” We coordinate the pickup of donated and recycled items and assist with any necessary paperwork.
Document scanning – All move-related paperwork is scanned and loaded into AtlasNet, our move management system. This eliminates paper files, expedites the planning and billing process and reduces document transfer costs by eliminating the need to mail paperwork.
Paperless driver settlements – We are now providing drivers with a password-protected online location to review their paperwork and receive their settlement.
Handheld surveys and inventories – Surveyors utilize an app to conduct household goods surveys. Drivers utilize a similar app to conduct inventories of the items to be moved. We have the ability to electronically sign move related paperwork.
Flexible Schedules- Employees can work from home or adjust their schedule to reduce road congestion and carbon emissions.
